Meditation.jpg

Meditation is a technique for resting the mind and attaining a state of consciousness that is different from the normal waking state. It is a means for understanding all of the levels of ourselves and finally experiencing the center of consciousness within. Meditation is not a part of any religion; it is a science, which means that the process of meditation follows a particular order, has definite principles, and produces results that can be verified.

In meditation, you are fully awake and alert while the mind is clear, relaxed and inwardly focused. It requires an inner state of stillness so the mind can become calm and quiet.

Meditation is a practical means for calming yourself, for letting go of your biases and seeing what is, openly and clearly. It is a way of training the mind so that you are not distracted and caught up in the monkey mind. Meditation teaches you to systematically explore your inner dimensions. It is a system of commitment, not commandment. You are committing to yourself, to your path, and to the goal of knowing yourself. Learning to be calm and still will benefit your health, enhance your relationships, help you sleep soundly, boost your immune system, and more. Think of learning meditation as a requirement to living a full, joyful life!

There are three types of meditation: “concentrative”, mindful, and expressive. Each week we will pick one type of meditation, practice it and talk about how best to utilize it to support our well-being. We will learn how to be still and how to examine what is within ourselves.

This class is open to parents with children of all ages.

learn how to cook.png

Marc David, from The Psychology of Eating, says, “Food is Love.”  And here at Namaste, we love to eat! Around the year 400 BCE, Hippocrates advised his patients to “let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food.” He believed that food both supported our health and created disease.  Therefore, each week, with these thoughts in mind, we will discuss food and prepare a meal. You’ll learn some basics like dicing, slicing, chopping, food preparation, various methods of cooking, seasonal eating, eating the rainbow, herbs to use, basics on anti-inflammatory foods, and more. We’ll have fun and eat what we make! This class will be flavored by several of our talented staff members. See you soon!
